The Failed Floor Project

Earlier this year, we were tasked with addressing a floor where the tiles had not properly adhered to the floor substrate. Upon removing the tiles, it became clear that there were several underlying causes for this issue. My findings are outlined as follows:

1. The previous tiler had neglected to properly prepare the anhydrate screeded floor before tiling.

2. The application of the acrylic based primer in multiple neat coats had resulted in a 'skinning' effect.

3. Numerous cracks were observed in the kitchen area causing movement.

4. Incorrect and unsuitable products were utilised during the work, as the tile adhesive had completely deteriorated back into powder.

5. During our inspection, we discovered several leaks in the utility area, which were promptly identified and resolved.

Unfortunately for the client, everything that could have possibly gone wrong did.

The decision was made to remove the existing tiled floor and begin from scratch. After ensuring that the floor was properly prepared and crack-matted, we proceeded to re-tile using exquisite 1200x1200 limestone effect porcelain tiles, with the outcome speaking volumes for itself as seen in the photos below.
